What are the CCTV Sign Requirements?

• The CCTV operator's contact details: This should be so that people can contact the operator if they have any questions or concerns.

The size and location of the signs will depend on the specific circumstances. However, the signs should be large enough to be easily read and displayed in a prominent location where they are likely to be seen by people entering the area.

There are some exceptions to the requirement to display CCTV signage. Can you have CCTV without warning signs?

That is a good question. We were 95% sure that you are allowed to put CCTV signs up without actually having cameras. Still, we’ve sought clarification from the ICO – Information Commissioner’s Office (the ruling body for CCTV/data privacy). They’ve confirmed that “Data protection law requires people to put up signs if CCTV is in operation. Nothing is saying that you can't put signs up as a deterrent.
