Viewing Distances
How big does a sign need to be so that it can be seen?
The size of a sign needed for visibility depends on a number of factors, including the distance from which it needs to be seen, the viewing angle, the height of the sign, the level of ambient light, and the contrast between the sign and its background.
As a general rule of thumb, the height of the letters on a sign should be 25mm (1 inch) for every 10 feet of viewing distance. For example, a sign with 10-inch letters could be seen from 100 feet away. Please note that this is just a general guideline, and the actual size of the sign may need to be larger or smaller depending on the specific factors mentioned above.
Here are some tips for making signs more visible:
- Use large, bold letters.
- Use a high-contrast color scheme.
- Place the sign in a well-lit area.
- Avoid placing the sign in front of a cluttered background.
- Use reflective materials for signs that need to be visible at night.
